The yield in the mushroom farm is determined by a number of factors, including the quality of the compost, the quality of the filling, the cultivation techniques used, and, last but not least, the level of hygiene used.

With this article, we want to share all the solutions introduced by ALPIE to facilitate cleaning operations in the mushroom farm.

The cleaning of mushroom farm machinery

Washing the cultivation machinery after each use is essential for maintaining optimal hygienic conditions in the mushroom farm.

ALPIE machines are designed and built to allow easy access to all parts for cleaning, making cleaning operations simple for operators.

For example, in the head filling machine, the pressing rollers are uncovered and the leveling plate above the mixer shaft can be easily raised to clean this area as well. At the same time, safety during loading operations is guaranteed by means of special protection barriers.

It is also important to protect the most sensitive parts of machinery during cleaning operations.

To avoid potential damage due to water and eventual machine interruptions, ALPIE machines are equipped with special cabinets for the protection of:

  • Touch screen keypad
  • Electrical components
  • Solenoid valves
  • Thermostats

In particular, on PHASE 3 SMART and PRO HEAD FILLING MACHINES, the electrical system and hydraulic unit are enclosed and protected by a watertight stainless-steel cabinet.

Remember that cleaning the machines accurately also prevents possible malfunctions caused by dirt and encrustations!

Solutions for the cleaning of the rooms

Once the cultivation cycle is over, it would be optimal to cook out the room before the exhausted bed is discharged; by introducing steam for several hours, any pathogens in organic materials are destroyed.

In general, for proper cleaning in mushroom farms, any organic residue must be carefully removed from all surfaces, including growing shelves.

In most cases, the shelves and beds are cleaned manually using a high-pressure cleaner, and the operator must access all the beds of the growing racks and wash them from top to bottom, a never-ending and exhausting operation!

ALPIE has introduced a new solution, already used by many growers, to make washing shelves easier, safer and faster: E-WASH.

This shelf washing machine guarantees thorough, precise and complete cleaning thanks to the multiple jets of water and can be simply activated by a remote control. The operator can comfortably follow the machine’s operations from the ground. To learn more, please click here.

After the shelves, the growing nets are also washed: also here, it is possible to mechanize the process with the aid of a GROWING NET WASHER. ALPIE offers two models:

  • Low pressure, with a supply of 6 bar and 120 l/min. It has 2 rotating brushes and 3 nozzle bars to wash both sides of the carpet.

  • High pressure, with 2 rotating brushes and 2 nozzle bars. This model can be powered with 1 pump of 200 bar and 42 l/min, or with two feed pumps for a total of 84 l/min for extra cleaning. The same type of pump can also be used for E-WASH.

It is clear that cleaning the mushroom growing rooms is a very delicate and time-consuming process: the use of specific machinery becomes essential to increase its effectiveness and reduce the time required.
